If the VM template VMware tools is older, in VM summary it will show below warning

A newer version of VMware Tools is available for this virtual machine

Next, you just need to right click that particular VM > Guest OS > Upgrade VMware Tools…

Once you click upgrade, it will automatic upgrade then restart the VM after complete.
