How To : Windows VM Guest File Restore from Cloud Veeam Console (For Public and Private Cloud)

  Public Cloud, Veeam, VMWare, Windows

Connect to CJ1 or AIMS VPN, go to RDM portal > access to Veeam backup server

Option 1 – Using Windows Guest Files Restore for direct restore to Customer VM (Might be slow if VM is in networkless network (VIX))

Go to Guest Files Wizard or Go to Backups > Disk

Select Customer Backup Images > Right click > Select Restore guest files > Select Restore from Microsoft Windows

Next, select restore point

Next, Veeam will prompt file explorer for restoration

Select location or file you want to restore > right click > select Restore (Overwrite or Keep (auto rename))

Monitoring the restore files process

If restore successfully status will show “Restore completed successfully”



Option 2 – Using Other Restore Files Method (Faster if Customer VM is in networkless network (VIX))

Go to Guest Files Wizard or Go to Backups > Disk

Select Customer Backup Images > Right click > Select Restore guest files > Select Restore from Linux and other

Next, select restore point

Next, configure Veeam FLR Appliance helper

***Please take noted***

1. Select the Host, make sure VM to restore is in the same Host

2. Configure Network as “SD-WAN”, IP Range 10.0.2.199/24 Customer WAN IP (This applied to SCP method for public cloud customer only)

3. Configure Network as “VM Network”, IP Range 10.40.19.199/16 Management IP (This applied to ALL)

Veeam FLR will start to configure and power on

Next, Veeam will prompt file explorer for restoration

Leave Veeam explorer open (close when complete the restoration), next go to Customer VM > Download WinSCP or other SCP tools

Enter Veeam FLR appliance IP & credential, credential can find in PAM secret server

On the right side is Customer VM, left will be backup images file mount by Veeam FLR appliance

Backup file mount on location:

/media/sd”x”

***sdx “x” mean number of Windows drive mounted by Veeam FLR appliance

Next find the files want to restore > drag and drop to customer VM (left) on any location they want

Once drag and drop, file will start to transfer

Once done restoration, close the Veeam FLR explorer from the Veeam backup console
