In our infrastructure, we will be using Dells and Cisco switches as our Switch.
Before we proceed to the commands, we must know how to login to the Switch within IPServerOne Standard.
All Support Engineer must have the Jumphost access to access the switch.
1. Identify which switch that you would like to login to,by login in to IPRobot and accessing the Rack pages.
2. Login to Jumphost as isupport and telnet to switches IP to login.
3. Login accordingly to the switch by entering the credential.
For switches, you must know that it have few modes that you have to understand :
Modes :
User EXEC mode : This is the first level of access. (For the switch) Change terminal settings, perform basic tasks, and list system information.
Prompt :
Switch>
Privileged EXEC : From user EXEC mode, enter the enable command. This mode allow us to show current config of the switch.
Switch#
Global configuration : From privileged EXEC mode, enter the configure command. This mode allow us to start configuring the switch. To enter Global config mode, use command Switch#configure terminal
Prompt:
Switch(config)#
Interface configuration : From global configuration mode, specify an interface by entering the interface command followed by an interface identification. You may enter this mode by using command interface (name of interface)
Prompt :
Switch(config-if)#
VLAN configuration : In global configuration mode, enter the Switch(config)#vlan (vlan id)
Prompt :
Switch(config-vlan)#
Lets go through the most common command that can be used on both model of the switches.
1 .In Privileged EXEC mode :
aims-3fb71-10g-sw01#sh running-config
To show all configuration of the switch. Output are as below:

5. If you would like to see what is the current configuration of a port:
Command:
aims-3fb71-10g-sw01#sh running-config interface Te 0/6
Output:
!
interface TenGigabitEthernet 0/6
description 6786-C1607_HV55_WAN
no ip address
switchport
speed 1000
spanning-tree rstp edge-port
no shutdown
6. If you would like to see the configuration for a VLAN ID :
Command :
aims-3fb71-10g-sw01#sh running-config interface vlan 519
Output:
!
interface Vlan 519
no ip address
tagged TenGigabitEthernet 0/1,4,6
tagged Port-channel 2,4-10
no shutdown
7. To save the latest configuration, you must run command
aims-3fb71-10g-sw01#write mem
This will make sure the configuration still the same even after reboot.
8. Let say you want to shutdown a port, go to the port interface (Go to Global Mode first) :
Command:
aims-3fb71-10g-sw01#conf t
aims-3fb71-10g-sw01(conf)#interface Te 0/39
Output:
aims-3fb71-10g-sw01(conf-if-te-0/39)#
This means currently you are in the interface to start configure, you may shutdown the port by using command:
aims-3fb71-10g-sw01(conf-if-te-0/39)#shut
Or turn on the port using aims-3fb71-10g-sw01(conf-if-te-0/39)#no shut
Will continue for configuring VLAN in another post
