Method 1 – Using Instant Recovery (Faster way but required to migrate VM back to production LUN/Volume using VMware Storage vMotion or Veeam Quick Migration (SmartSwitch)
Method 2 – Using quick rollback (Faster way to rollback VM without performing entire VM restore, restore only change block) in case of guest OS software problem, or user error. Do not use this option when recovering from disaster caused by hardware or storage issues, or power loss
Method 3 – Using Entire VM restore (Slower restoration depend of VM data size)
Method 1
Go to Disk or Restore Wizard > Select Customer backup Job > Select Instant VM Recovery

Next, select second option “Restore to a new location, or with different settings” (To avoid overwriting existing VM)

Next, Rename the VM name to avoid conflict > select Host, VM folder and Resource pools

Next, Redirect write cache leave as default

Next, Secure Restore
This option allow to scan for virus threats before performing recovery, leave as default

Next, Click Finish
1. Connect VM to network, allow you to connect to network after VM is recover or leave it disconnect if existing VM is still running to avoid IP conflicts
2. Power on target VM after restoring, automatically power on VM after restoring
Next, Restore Session
Recover VM is now mounted from backup storage to the Host you selected as temporary storage and waiting for migration

Next, go to the recovered VM > Summary > VM Hardware > Hard disk, location will show backup repository which is correct as we instant boot up the VM from backup repository

For VMware Storage vMotion (No downtime) Go to vCenter > select VM right click > Migrate

Next, select Change storage only

Next, select production volume/LUN

Next, Click Finish to start migrate

To verify the VM is migrated to production storage, go to recovered VM again > Summary and verify the hard disk location

Next, go to Veeam console > Instant Recovery > Stop publishing

Finally from the log, it will show the VM was moved

Method 2
Go to Disk or Restore Wizard > Select Customer backup Job > Select Entire VM restore

Go to Add VM from backup job for restoration

Next select Restore to the original location > Check on Quick Rollback (restore changed blocks only)

Next, Secure Restore
This option allow to scan for virus threats before performing recovery, leave as default

Next, it will prompt existing VM will be deleted/overwrite message.

Next, Click Finish to start quick roll back restore
1. Power on target VM after restoring, automatically power on VM after restoring

Next, Restore Session
As we can see the restoration for quick roll back is very fast as it restore only changes block instead of entire block. It will show Rolling back Hard disk from the Log

Method 3 – Same step following by method 2 but make sure Restore to new location, or with different settings on Restore Mode to avoid overwrite existing VM
