In Dell switches, we need first to know syntax used in it for VLAN with our General Knowledge.
As we know as basics, there are two kind of VLAN that we usually configure in Switch interfaces:
Trunk – can set multiple VLAN and need to be manage VLAN in Servers (Mainly set for Virtualization Server)
Access – only for one type of VLAN and VLAN did not need to be configured in Servers.
Below are the command used for above mode respectively :
Trunk = tagged
Access = untagged
1. First we need to make sure the interface have been entered switchport mode.
CJ1-1FA08-SW01#conf t
CJ1-1FA08-SW01(conf)#interface gigabitethernet 1/40
CJ1-1FA08-SW01(conf-if-gi-1/40)#switchport
CJ1-1FA08-SW01(conf-if-gi-1/40)#no shut
Example of ready port :
CJ1-1FA08-SW01#sh running-config interface Gi 1/40
!
interface GigabitEthernet 1/40
description 7373-C1710_eth2
no ip address
switchport
no shutdown
2. Afterwards, you need to enter the VLAN interface and added the Port Interface to the VLAN interface.
Example :
CJ1-1FA08-SW01#conf t
CJ1-1FA08-SW01(conf)#interface vlan 909
CJ1-1FA08-SW01(conf-if-vl-909)#untagged gigabitethernet 1/40
This means that the port will set as Access to vlan 909.
Same goes with Trunk mode as below
CJ1-1FA08-SW01#conf t
CJ1-1FA08-SW01(conf)#interface vlan 909
CJ1-1FA08-SW01(conf-if-vl-909)#tagged gigabitethernet 1/40
Results :
CJ1-1FA08-SW01(conf-if-vl-909)#do sh running-config interface vlan 909
!
interface Vlan 909
no ip address
tagged GigabitEthernet 1/19-1/24,1/26-1/27
tagged Port-channel 1
untagged GigabitEthernet 1/14,1/39-1/41
no shutdown
